Its current permit page routes building applications and contractor registration through the OpenGov online portal and warns that work started without the required permit may face enforcement and doubled permit fees.
For a homeowner, the important part is simple: confirm the permit is issued before installation begins. Our scope identifies who submits the application, what project information is required and whether any product or plan documentation must be attached. Permit coordination should be boring—and boring is beautiful when a truck full of shingles is already headed toward the house.
An Inspection Request Is Not an Inspection Appointment
Little Canada’s online inspection guidance says applicants may request an inspection through the portal or by phone after the permit is approved and paid. The City also makes an important distinction: submitting the request does not guarantee the appointment; confirmation arrives by email, and the page encourages advance scheduling with 48 hours preferred during summer.
That affects production planning. Required work should remain visible until it can be inspected or documented in the manner the City accepts. We coordinate the timing so crews are not forced to choose between covering a critical detail too soon and leaving the home exposed longer than necessary.
The Roof Is a Water-Management System
Shingles shed most of the weather, but they are only the visible layer. Long-term performance depends on the deck, underlayment, ice-and-water membrane, drip edge, valleys, flashing, ventilation and penetrations working together. A roof can leak with perfectly respectable-looking shingles if a wall intersection or pipe flashing fails.
- Eaves and valleys: protection must be planned for snow, ice and concentrated runoff.
- Sidewalls: step flashing should be integrated with both the shingles and the wall’s water-resistive layer.
- Penetrations: plumbing vents, bath vents, chimneys and skylights each need a detail suited to that opening.
- Ventilation: intake and exhaust must be evaluated together to reduce heat and moisture problems.
