Architectural asphalt shingles have changed over the years.  Originally 25 year rated architectural shingles soon became 30 year with no change to the product.  Then came the lifetime warranty with, again, no change to the shingle.  They decided to pro-rate the warranty instead.  So when choosing a shingle to meet your needs, start with an entry level architectural shingle.  Very few people install 3-tab shingles these days as was the only option in years past.  While the flip phone is an option for a mobile phone, next to no one has one.  Same thing.  Call a roofing contractor with experience.

Upgrading to a Class 3 or 4 shingle can bring about insurance discounts as they are less likely to suffer hail damage.  Inquire with your insurance company and then call the roofing company with the know-how to install it.
