Spring offers the perfect opportunity to assess any winter damage and ensure your roof is in top shape.
1. Visual Inspection from the Ground
Shingle Check: Scan your roof for any missing, cracked, curled, or buckled shingles. Pay close attention to areas that receive direct sunlight or are prone to ice accumulation. Granule Loss: Excessive shingle granules in your gutters indicate your shingles are aging and losing their protective layer. Sagging or Warping: Look for any visible sagging in the roof deck — this could indicate structural issues requiring immediate professional attention. Flashing Inspection: Check the flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights. Damaged flashing is a common entry point for water.
2. Gutter and Downspout Clean-Up
Minnesota winters leave behind leaves, twigs, and other debris. Clogged gutters prevent proper water drainage, leading to potential roof leaks and fascia board damage. Ensure downspouts are clear and water can flow freely away from your foundation.
